Just a stupid silly tutorial on how I shade incase anyone was wondering XD;
NOTE: I use Sketchbook Pro. So im not sure how effective this will be on other programs XD;
1- Pick your colours. I usually have a "pallet" layer for all my colours so they are all in one spot ^^ Saves time and I don't have to go back and forth to a reference :3 I also leave the pallet layer on the very top. Always.
Colours I pick include:
-Shade 1 (a bit darker)
-Shade 2 (even more darker)
-Shade 3 (outline colour for subject)
-Shade 4 (highlight)
2- next, make a new layer, draw your subject using your outline colour you have picked.
3- On a layer under you're outline layer, colour in your object using your base colour.
4- Pick where your light source is coming from. This is important s it gives your shading a more realistic feel.
5- On a new layer above your base colour layer, start shading your subject with your shade 2. I use an airbrush tool for this.
6- on the same layer, with the airbrush tool, shade with shade 3.
7- With a blur tool, roughly blur the colours together. DO NOT merge your shading and base colours together YET!
8- After you have blurred your shading, pick your highlight colour and with the airbrush, highlight key points where the light source hits.
9- Once you're shading layer is the way you want it, erase the sections you don't desire. Then merge you're shading and base colour layer together. I then add with a white pencil. some highlights for an even further 3D and real look ^^ I then merge all together and add background.
HOPE THIS HELPS
